3rd Exhibitは、KOTA IWATANI〈NIHONGA RIZE〉を開催いたします。

日本画家 岩谷晃太が、スケートボードデッキに描く。
装雅堂３代目 勝村真光氏が仕立てた182×182㎝の屏風作品とともにレイアウトされたdeck art。
これまでにない日本画の表現方法を模索する岩谷の展開は、まさに〈NIHONNGA RIZE〉。

STATEMENT

変化を受け入れ、進化する表現。
画家が芸術家というより、絵師として認知されていた時代、絵画は装飾として扇面や襖絵など日常生活の中の調度品にも広がりをみせた。今では美術館で展示されているような、光琳や宗達らが描いた屏風も、もともとは室内の空間を仕切る実用的な家具である。
やがて時代が進み、キャンバスサイズに規格化された絵画が多く描かれ、絵師が芸術作品を創作する画家へと変化していった。
このような変遷の中で、新たな日本画の形を見出すことも今を生きる日本画家の役目なのである。
スケートボードに日本画を描く。カナディアンメープルの木でできたデッキは、日本画でいうところの板絵として屏風や扇面などと同じように、日本画の新しい形になる可能性を秘めている。これまでにない日本画の表現を模索する。古きにも新しきにも通じるフォーマットは、美の本質を伝えるだろう。

An expression that embraces change and evolves.
At a time when painters were recognized as painters and not as artists, painting as decoration expanded into everyday objects such as fans and fusuma-e (paintings on sliding doors). The folding screens painted by Korin, Sotatsu, and others, which are now displayed in museums, were originally practical furnishings that divided interior space.
Eventually, over time, many paintings were standardized to the size of a canvas, and painters became artists who created works of art.
In the midst of this transition, it is the task of Japanese painters living today to find a new form of Japanese painting.
Japanese Painting on a Skateboard. A skateboard made of Canadian maple wood has the potential to become a new form of Japanese painting, just like a folding screen or a fan in Japanese painting. The artist seeks to create an unprecedented expression of Japanese painting. The format, both old and new, will convey the essence of beauty.
